Greetings! I am so happy to have you back here on the good ol' Nohegan site. You can see, not much has changed. I have gone slightly muddier with my green background this year, but other than that I'm keepin' it real here with my lo-fi web techniques.
Nohegan 2007 is an art making weekend inspired by both the Skowhegan School and the summer camp experience. This year it will take place Thursday, August 16th through Monday, August 20th at McKinney State Falls Park. Rather than have a separate gallery show at MASS Gallery , like last year, we will be showcasing any and all work at a big, community BBQ at the park on Sunday. This will be a fun day to invite people down to check it out.
This is the second year of Nohegan. For those of you who aren't familiar, last year we had a blast. Grillin', chillin', art making... in whatever order that pleases you. It's about community, really, and sharing. Sharing happens when people donate their time and creative energy by hosting a workshop of their choice. These workshops can be as practical or impractical as you want. They can be conceptual or art-based or not. Last year I hosted a workshop on how to make cakes inside of orange rinds over a fire... it isn't on my resume, but I found it rewarding nonetheless. Click here for a list of last year's workshops.
This year Nohegan will cost $20. That's right, you heard it here first. TWENTY DOLLARS! For less than a meat lovers pizza pie of decent quality you can buy yourself 4 nights of priceless memories in a state park.
A bunk that's right bunk a.k.a. wooden plank in one of six screened shelters. There are eight beds per shelter and six shelters total. If you want to gather together a cabin of eight, you may, but you need to pay in full, up front.
Click here for a look at campground and "screened shelters". Please note that you must bring your own bedding there are no mattresses provided. Each shelter has a hot & cold water sink, ceiling fan, picnic table (inside and out) and one 15 amp duplex electrical outlet. Cooking grill & fire ring are outside. Pets are not permitted in the area. No tents, RV's or trailers are allowed outside the shelters.
HOT: It will be frickin' hot.
VISITING ART GUESTS: I am calling them guests, not critics, this year, but it's the same deal esteemed visitors of the art-knowing kind.
SUNDAY BBQ: Invite all your friends that aren't camping!
DAILY ACCESS TO GROUP DINING HALL: We'll have the dining hall for the enirety of our stay. You will have access to it from 8am to 9pm daily. There is a refrigerator and kitchen for you to use, which should make food planning and prep easier. It will be locked at night, so you can leave artwork there.
COMMITTEES: Sounds scary, but it's not. Just gonna dole out some of the organizational stuff to those who are interested. Committees will include Talent Show, Nightly Movies, Sunday BBQ. More info on this later.
TALENT SHOW: This should excite you.
• Last year I included the daily $4 park entry fee in the price (that's $4 per person, per day/night). I found that too confusing, so this year, you pay your own park entry fees when you arrive. Just let the park ranger know how many nights you're staying.
• Only TWO cars per screened shelter are allowed. Plan accordingly. You will pay extra for additional vehicles.
• You may only cosume alcohol in and around your cabins discreetly it's the McKinney way. From their website: "It is an offense to consume or display an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a public place." So now you know.
PLEASE NOTE: FEES ARE DUE NO LATER THAN JULY 15th!
